First-year students

Eligible candidates who are admitted to Wayne State University are invited to attend Scholars Day to compete for a seat in the Honors College. Students must be admitted to Wayne State University by December 1st in order to receive a Scholars Day invitation. If you have yet to apply to Wayne State, you can fill out the admission application here

Invitations to Scholars Day are based on students' high school GPA and ACT/SAT scores submitted during the admission process to Wayne State University. If you meet the admission criteria, you will be sent a letter informing you about the Honors College along with an invitation to Scholars Day. Learn more about Scholars Day.  

The Scholars Day event on campus includes: 

  • A welcome message from the President and the Dean 
  • An interview and essay 
  • A campus resource fair 
  • Opportunity to meet current Honors students     

First-year students who are admitted into the Honors College will complete University Honors, which is Wayne State University's highest academic achievement.  

University Honors requires a total of 36 Honors credits, including: 

  • HON 1000 
  • Honors PS 1010 
  • HON 3000 service-learning 
  • HON 42xx seminar 
  • Honors thesis project
