Students interested in research learned some helpful tips on constructing a research proposal on Monday, Oct 1.

Hosted by Research@Honors, a branch of the Irvin D. Reid Honors College, students were introduced to the concepts of literature review, how to cite sources, create annotated bibliographies, and how to search library databases in the workshop "Building a Research or Creative Project Proposal." Leading the workshop was Honors College Librarian Judith Arnold and Writing Center Director and Wayne State Lecturer Jule Wallis.

According to Minakshi Lahiri, Program Associate for the Honors College, students also learned about Zotero and Evernote, which are free tools students can use to help them develop and organize research directories and notes and "understand the systematic process of research in any subject area."

A sample research proposal was also handed out to students.

"The event was successful and met out objectives, which was to provide students with information, resources, and direction regarding how to develop a research proposal and how to engage undergraduate researchers," Lahiri added.

Future research workshops are being planned and will be announced after the presenters and their availability have been finalized.
