Dr. Jerry Herron, Dean of the Irvin D. Reid Honors College at Wayne State University, has been elected president of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC). He was formally inducted during November's NCHC annual conference in Chicago.

The NCHC serves as the professional association of undergraduate honors programs and colleges, directors, deans, faculty, staff, and students. The organization provides support for institutions and individuals developing, implementing and expanding honors education through curriculum development, program assessment, teaching innovation, national and international study opportunities, internships, service and leadership development, and mentored research.

Herron attended his first NCHC national meeting in 2002, when he was appointed honors director at WSU with the charge to transform a relatively modest program into a fully developed college. In 2008, he became founding dean of the Irvin D. Reid Honors College at Wayne State University. "To say that I couldn't have achieved this goal without NCHC would be an understatement," he said.

Herron was elected to the NCHC Board of Directors from 2009-12.In 2012, he began a four-year term as an NCHC officer, which includes one year as vice president, one year as president-elect, one year as president and recognition as past president in the following years.

"I'm honored to have been elected by members of the National Collegiate Honors Council and look forward to serving the organization in the year ahead," said Herron. "Through the NCHC, we will continue to support the highest standards of excellence in honors education."
