DEADLINE EXTENDED to March 15: Nominations sought for David Mackenzie Honor Society

Student self-nominations and faculty/staff nominations are now being accepted by the David Mackenzie Honor Society (DMHS) for its Class of 2010. The David Mackenzie Honor Society (DMHS) is named for David Mackenzie, first dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The Society was established in 1926, making this our 84th year.

Each year the Society inducts between 10 and 15 of the university's finest graduating seniors based on scholarship and contributions to Wayne State University, and each year an honorary member also is inducted. This year, the DMHS is pleased to announce Provost Nancy Barrett will be our honorary inductee for her active role in supporting student academic achievement and campus life at Wayne State University.

Graduating seniors are inducted into DMHS as recognition for high academic achievement and their contributions to the Wayne State campus community. New members are celebrated at the DMHS annual reunion and induction, which will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010. Nominees do not need to be Honors students to be considered.

Nominations are open to any student graduating in Fall 2009, Winter 2010 or Spring/Summer 2010. The student application form and faculty recommendation form are available at the links below or in 2100 UGL. The deadline for nominations is March 15, 2010. Nominations may be returned to the Honors office by campus mail to 2100 UGL; faxed to 577-6425; or e-mailed to dmhs@wayne.edu. You may use your application and recommendation letters for the 2009 Henry or 2010 Donnelly awards in lieu of the DMHS application.

Applicants will be notified by e-mail on Friday, March 26. If you have any questions, please contact Liza Lagman Sperl at dmhs@wayne.edu or (313) 577-9075.
