Over 100 people filled the Bernath Auditorium the inaugural TEDxWayneStateU event on Friday, April 17.

Organized by Honors College sophomore Manasi Mahajan, TEDx, which stands for Technology, Entertainment, and Design, brought together students, faculty, and alumni of Wayne State to share their new ideas and life experiences.

In addition to students, faculty, and alumni presenters, there were two official TED presentations: Reach into the Computer and Grab a Pixel and A Life Lesson from a Volunteer Firefighter.

The theme of the event was "When Pigs Fly."

Richard Diggs: Investing in Roses

Dr. James Low: Applications of the Theory of Constraints

Yasmeen Bazzi: How My Heart Chose My Path

Blake Bowman: Posture: The Ultimate Lifehack

Elena Past: When Goats Make Films: Cinema Beyond the Human

During the intermission, there were five TEDxWayneStateU Labs featuring BMS Design, WSU Hybrid Warriors of the EcoCar3 competition, Warm Up Detroit, Teach4Detroit, and NurtiWayne.

According to the organization's website, www.ted.com, TED is a non-profit organization devoted to spreading ideas in the form of 20-minute presentations that cover all sorts of topics ranging from science to global issues. Their goal is to make great ideas accessible and spark conversation.

TEDx is an independently run TED event in communities around the world.
