What are you involved in that you would like featured in a Honors publication/website?
I work at Michigan Medicine and in my spare time I like to be with my family and friends. I also spend time working on various Instructional Design certificates to gain more experience in my future career. How has Honors prepared you for your accomplishments? Remember the four pillars: community, service, research and career.
How has Honors prepared you for your chosen career path?
Honors has prepared me for my career in Instructional Design by helping me to be more organized and to get my thoughts and ideas out in a way others will easily understand. I feel Honors has helped to give me the necessary writing skills needed for my career. I also believe Honors has given me more experience working with my peers and how to effectively communicate with others.
What makes Honors at WSU unique?
Honors at WSU is unique because it has such a diverse group of students. I have been in Honors Programs at previous schools, but I enjoy Wayne State's the most because I get to meet people with various backgrounds. WSU Honors is also unique because of the professors. You can tell they really care about their students and that makes all the difference.
What's your most memorable experience in Honors?
My most memorable moment in Honors is when I received an A- in my Honors seminar course. This is the lowest grade I've received at Wayne State, so part of me was disappointed in myself that I didn't get a solid A, however; the other part of me was ecstatic because this was the hardest course I had ever taken. Shout-out to Dr. Deegan-Krause, he is the most intelligent man I have ever had the pleasure to learn from. He wanted his students to excel in writing and I didn't have exemplary writing skills at the beginning of the class. Throughout the semester, my papers improved each time and by the end of the course, I was extremely proud of the work I'd written. It was such a good feeling to know what I accomplished and that I did well in the course that frightened me and assumed I wouldn't do well in.
Tell me about your experience in your major.
I love my major. When I transferred to WSU and started their Learning Design & Technology program, I knew I finally found the program that was right for me. The professors are all amazing and I appreciate to no end how much they help their students. Since LDT is a new major, our class sizes are rather small - which makes it easier to connect with the professors. I feel you get much more hands-on experience in this major than others offer. I have always been a straight-A student, getting good grades in subjects that didn't interest me. When I started this program though, it was a good feeling to get good grades in a subject you are passionate about and want to excel at.
What is your favorite thing to do in Detroit?
My favorite things to do in Detroit are go to various sports games, mainly baseball and hockey and to concerts. I love the atmosphere Detroit has and it's always fun going to the city and seeing the improvements being made.
