Ashley Woodson

Biography

 Dr. Ashley Woodson loves solving problems that stand in the way of justice. Her research examines and connects ideas that inspire kids to joy, informed action, and civic leadership. Dr. Woodson's current project documents the changing role of Christian churches in Black, youth-led social movements. Past projects have been funded by the Spencer Foundation, Mellon Foundation, and National Science Foundation. Dr. Woodson designed the national Freedom School curriculum for the Abolitionist Teaching Network and supports social studies teachers in teaching about freedom. She co-edited The Future is Black: Afropessimism, Fugitivity, and Radical Hope in Education (with Carl Grant and Michael Dumas), and is a proud member of the NSF-funded Black EpiSTEMologies Research Project. Dr. Woodson earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at Michigan State University.
