Publication Opportunities for Undergraduate Researchers

NEW**Call for Undergraduate Research Highlights: CUR Quarterly on the Web

Submissions for the "Undergraduate Research Highlights" feature of CUR Quarterly on the Web are accepted four times during the year. Highlights consist of brief descriptions of recent (past six months) peer-reviewed research or scholarly publications in scholarly journals, book and book chapters, web-based publications, and juried performances. These publications must be in print and must include one or more undergraduate co-authors. To be considered for publication as an Undergraduate Research Highlight a submission should include the information listed below and must conform to the submission format (Carefully check this page).  Submissions must be sent via the submission form at this link.

INFORMATION YOU WILL NEED TO INCLUDE IN YOUR DESCRIPTION (through the electronic submission form): -Title of the article and full journal citation (inclusive pages). -A brief description (3-5 lines) of the research and its significance. -Title and department or program affiliation of the faculty member. -A brief description of the student co-author(s).  Include the year of study in which the student(s) undertook the work, the opportunity through which the work was undertaken, (independent study project, summer project, REU program, senior thesis project, etc.), and the current status of the student (graduate school, employed, still enrolled, etc). -The source of funding for the work.

Publication opportunities to explore

Several institutions with undergraduate research programs have journals that publish their own student research and there are also several journals that accept undergarduate research. Mercyhurst maintains a list of conferences and journals for undergraduate research. 

Aisthesis Honors Journal

Aisthesis Honors Journal is an undergraduate journal produced by students in University Honors at University of Minnesota Duluth. As a cross-disciplinary selection of work, Aisthesis accepts research projects, essays, poetry, fictional stories, photographs, graphic art, and more exclusively from Honors students across the country. Submissions that extend and expand boundaries are both welcomed and encouraged. This journal offers an excellent opportunity for students to be published as undergraduates in a respectable, student-produced journal. A student editorial committee blindly reviews and selects all submissions to be accepted into Aisthesis. Being selected for publication by fellow Honors students provides a mark of personal achievement and pride. Brainchild Magazine

Brainchild magazine, edited and published by Honors students at Kent State University, displays creative work completed by undergraduate Honors students from across the mid-east. Brainchild is currently accepting submissions from undergraduate Honors students in the categories of fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, fine art, and photography. The deadline for submissionsis November 30, 2013. For further information about the publication including submission guidelines, visit brainchildmagazine.org.

Conference Presentation Opportunities

WSU Undergraduate Research Conference (URC)

Wayne State holds an annual conference showcasing the research and creative works of our undergraduate students. All Wayne State Undergraduate Students who would like to present their research are encouraged to apply. Students interested in starting research can learn what others are doing, get ideas about types of research to consider, and find out how to obtain funding. This conference normally takes place each November and is free to attend. For more information about the conference, including how to apply to present, visit the URC website.

 

Rushton Undergraduate Conference on Language, Literature, and Culture

The Wayne State University Department of English invites undergraduate scholars, writers, and artists from all majors and programs to participate in the Rushton Undergraduate Conference on Language, Literature, and Culture. Projects addressing any topic, theme or method of study within the framework of language, literature, and culture are welcome.

Posters on the Hill 2014

In the spring of 2014, the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) will host its 18th Annual Posters on the Hill.  There will be an evening poster session and reception where students will have the opportunity to speak directly to member of Congress and demonstrate how they have been impacted by these programs. National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR)

The National Conferences on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), established in 1987, is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity in all fields of study by sponsoring an annual conference for students. Unlike meetings of academic professional organizations, this gathering of young scholars welcomes presenters from all institutions of higher learning and from all corners of the academic curriculum.

La Academia del Pueblo: Regional Undergraduate and Graduate Latino/a and Latin American Research Conference

This annual conference at Wayne State University, hosted by The Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies, invites submissions of abstracts for poster board and panel presentations from undergraduate and graduate students conducting research on Latino/as and Latin America.

Michigan Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (MI-LSAMP)

The MI-LSAMP 2013 Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium, hosted by Wayne State's College of Engineering, will take place Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the McGregor Memorial Conference Center. ALL Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) undergraduate students interested in research are welcome!!! Breakfast & lunch will be provided.

Midwest Biomedical Engineering Career Conference (MBECC)

Each year, Biomedical Engineering freshman and junior classes travel to this conference, sponsored by the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES).  In addition to the career preparation focus, there is a poster session that communicates student research (undergrad and grad) on numerous topics in the area of biomedical engineering.
