Congratulations on your decision to attend Wayne State University and to join the Irvin D. Reid Honors College! Now that your senior year of high school is coming to a close, many of you have started to look ahead to placement exams, New Student Orientation, and other important details to help you successfully transition from high school to college.

We’re here to help.

You should have already received your Honors Orientation invitation in our Important Information for Fall 2013 mailing. If you misplace your copy or do not receive it, you may download it here.

Athletes, Business, Education, Engineering, and Performing Arts majors (music, theatre and dance) are encouraged to attend their specific college orientation. You will need to include HON 1000 as part of your Fall schedule.

The adviser at the non-Honors orientation will assist you with your general requirements and help familiarize you with the registration system. You may then review the Honors materials and adjust your schedule from home. Remember that Presidential Scholars, University Scholars, and "Start" program students are required to take HON 1000.

All other Honors students are welcome to register for other Honors sections if one fits in your schedule. If you have any questions, or need to obtain permission to register for an Honors section of a class, please contact us at honors@wayne.edu.

If you have not received an Honors College invitation, but would like to appeal to join Honors as an incoming freshman, you are welcome to send a statement of your interest and why you want to be part of the freshmen class to honors@wayne.edu.  Please note that if you are accepted to the Honors College as an incoming freshmen, your scholarship is not affected in any way.  Your request is to be included in the Honors freshmen first year seminars and to be invited to Honors Orientation.  The expectation is that you plan to complete a total of 36 Honors credits, including a research thesis and a senior seminar.

If your request is not granted at this time, you will be welcome to apply to the Honors College after you have completed your first semester at WSU. You will need to complete and submit an Honors College Application Form
