Inaugural Model United Nations delegation wins Honorable Mention Award

April 9, 2007

The first Honors-sponsored Model United Nations student delegation to attend the MUN national conference was recognized as one of the 50 best delegations at the event out of more than 270 national and international universities participating. The team received an Honorable Mention Award for its efforts.

The National Model United Nations Conference was held March 18-22 in New York City. It is the world’s largest university-level simulation of the United Nations. WSU team members all are Honors students and include senior Clarence Dass of Bloomfield Hills; junior Kendall Calkins of Sterling Heights; freshman Sean Bhalla of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; freshman Pridvi Kandagatla of Canton; and freshman Rami Zein of Dearborn. The delegation represented Cote d’Ivoire.

The team was organized in December 2006 and prepared for the conference from January to March. Each delegate represented Cote d’Ivoire on an individual committee and helped draft resolutions. During the competition the team also met with a representative from the United States mission to the United Nations.
