The house that CoS built
Community of Scholars students dusted off their hammer and nails and took their last week of summer vacation to help build a house for a local Detroit family in need in August.
Over 200 CoS students worked side-by-side with professional builders from Habitat for Humanity during the organization’s “Blitz Build” week from August 16-23. The students started from scratch building a house in the Morningside neighborhood in Detroit.
The project was part of the Community of Scholars, part of WSU’s Irvin D. Reid Honors College, annual Scholars Service Day.
The Community of Scholars is a service-oriented learning community of high achieving students, with many students receiving merit-based scholarships and are among the best prepared students entering Wayne State University.
