There are two tracks into the Honors College: by invitation or application
Incoming freshmen are invited through their admission application and participation in Scholars Day. At Scholars Day, students will write an essay and sit for a group interview. The essay and interview are required of all freshmen entering into the Honors College.
If you attended Scholars Day and did not receive an Honors College invitation, but would like to appeal to join Honors as an incoming freshman, you are welcome to send a statement of your interest and why you want to be part of the freshman class. Please prepare your appeal in a Word document addressed to Dean Herron and attach it to an email to send to email@example.com. Please note that if you are accepted into the Honors College as an incoming freshman, your scholarship is not affected in any way. Your request is to be included in the Honors freshmen first year seminars and to be invited to Honors Orientation. The expectation is that you plan to complete a total of 36 Honors credits, including a research thesis and a senior seminar.
If your request is not granted at this time, you will be welcome to apply to the Honors College after you have completed your first semester at WSU. You will need to complete and submit an Honors College Application Form
Current WSU students with a minimum 3.3 or higher GPA and a full semester's worth of courses may apply for membership in the Honors College. WSU Freshmen may apply after their first term. Applications to the Honors College are processed February 15th, October 15th, and June 15th. Some departments may require an additional application to pursue Honors in the major.
Transfer students are invited into the Honors College as part of their consideration for the community college transfer scholarships. Invitations to the Honors College are based on you obtaining a 3.3 GPA and at least 12 credits at the insitiution you are transferring from. No further application is required.
