Cultural Passport

The Cultural Passport is a special offering for Honors freshmen that introduces Honors students to Detroit and all it has to offer. Freshmen students in Honors are required to participate in Passport events because they connect what is learned in the classroom with the real world. They also help build community by providing students with a common set of experiences. The events are reflected upon during discussions in class and build a feeling of unity.

Passport events have a broad range. When the automotive industry was discussed in The City, students visited the Detroit Institute of Arts to view the Diego Rivera murals Detroit Industry. Other Passport events have included a guided bus tour of Detroit, spending a morning at the Eastern Market, attending special film screenings at the Redford Theatre, and viewing performances at the Michigan Opera Theatre. You receive a Cultural Passport that is stamped at each event. At the end of the semester, you will submit your Passport for grading. If you do not participate in a required Passport event, you will lose one-half of a letter grade in HON 1000 or P S 1010-Honors (The City and Citizenship).
